Anchor Point


Anchor Point in Morocco is perhaps the most popular surfing spot in the country and a must-surf if you’re visiting the northern part of Africa. You can consistently catch clean waves hear year-round, though they’ll vary quite a bit. Sizes range anywhere from 3 feet to some pretty intimidating 15 footers.

N’gor Island


N’gor Island boasts one of the best right-hand turns in the world. If you’re a fan of the classic surfing film Endless Summer, you’ll recognize N’gor Right. The island is located off the coast of Dakar. It’s come a long way since the days of Endless Summer. When you’re not surfing, you can indulge in many of the island’s excellent restaurants, bars and shops.

Jeffrey’s Bay

Of all the surfing destinations in Africa, Jeffrey’s Bay takes the top spot. In fact, it’s among the top surfing destinations in the world. Jeffrey’s Bay hosts the Billabong Pro Surfing Challenge every July. Because of its position below the equator, the winter season at Jeffrey’s Bay runs from June through August and it’s during these months that the waves are the best. In fact, some of the “Supertubes” in this area are considered to be some of the best formed and fastest moving waves in the world.

Tofinho Point


The award for the best surfing spot in Mozambique goes to the right-hand break at Tofinho Point. Like Jeffrey’s Bay, the winter months of June through August are the best times to catch a wave at Tofinho Point. Many factors contribute to the spot’s title as an excellent surfing destination, including the amazing waves, affordable accommodations and hospitable locals.
