Make no mistake, even though surfing is considered by many to be a laid-back sport, being good at it does require some decent physical fitness. Part of that fitness comes by way of a healthy diet. Few things are better than heading out for a day of surfing just as the sun comes up, but that might not leave you much time for breakfast. Plan ahead and whip up one of these breakfasts that are surfer approved!
If you’re heading out for a long day of surfing, you’re gonna need some carbs and protein. This quick recipe for delicious breakfast muffins will get the job done. One of the greatest things about this particular breakfast meal is that you can make several of them in advance and keep them in the fridge. That way you can sleep in before surfing and still get in a delicious breakfast.
To make them, whisk half a dozen eggs in a bowl and then add in whatever ingredients you want. For added protein, toss in some bacon or ham, as well as some cherry tomatoes and shredded cheddar. Season the mixture however you want, though you can’t go wrong with a dash of Cajun seasoning. Then, when you’re ready to cook, grease up a muffin pan and pour the egg mixture evenly into as many containers as you can. Bake the muffins at just 180 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Eat one for breakfast and throw the rest in your cooler for snacks throughout the day!
There are times when a nice long, leisurely breakfast is just the ticket. Heading out for a day of surfing is not one of those times. When you need a delicious and nutritious breakfast in a hurry, it’s pretty hard to beat a smoothie. Start with a cup of frozen berries (you can pick whatever you want, but blueberries are our favorites!) and throw them in a blender. Add a banana and a splash of water or milk. Next, toss in 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt and half a teaspoon of protein powder. Blend everything up and enjoy as you drive to the beach!
