With this basketball season coming in, fans all over the country are getting more and more excited. There have been some truly games during the off-season, many of which were very telling as to how the teams will perform during the playoffs. While some fan favorites, like the Warriors, are expected to excel, enough teams have done poorly enough that it makes us think that they will fail miserably in the upcoming games. Poor players, bad coaching, and lousy chemistry galore afflicts quite a few teams, some of which are mentioned below.
1-New York Knicks
Though the Knicks have played quite well in the past, their catastrophic games in the offseason completely ruined their self-confidence. They failed to catch any decent players in the draft and ended up with Randle, Portis, Gibson, and Barrett. It should be noted that Barrett was drafted third overall. Some of these players show potential, and will maybe, just maybe, pull the Knicks from their several year slump. Having lost quite a few of their best players like Zion, Durant, and Kyrie really hurt their game. It is possible that a major free agent will sign next year, if only to bring back faith to the fans.
The Suns managed to pull together a decent offensive team for the season when they signed on Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Dario Saric. Rubio is an excellent shot maker who will get on superbly with Oubre Jr.’s potential for greatness. The problem is, they gave up on Josh Jackson and T.J. Warren, and none of their players are successful defenders. Tack on many coaching changes and a team culture without a true system and the Suns can look forward to a mediocre season at best. Their only hope lies in Devin Booker, who provided that he can pull through to All-Star status might be able to snag the team a spot in the West.
The Wizards have an unusual situation. Though they have an excellent team, the reality is they simply aren’t working out. The backcourt with Wall and Beal with tough-minded players like Morris and Gortat is completely uncoordinated. Wall has struggled with injuries, along with being in constant conflict with his teammates. He will likely be out for the season anyway. When the star player doesn’t gel with his team, there is a recipe for disaster. A couple of new shining stars like Rui Hachimura might help the situation, but if things continue as they are, the Wizards will be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have managed to recruit some promising new players. For example, Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson pair nicely in the backcourt, while draft signings Darius Garland and Kevin Porter Jr. are full of upside. Top player Tristan Thompson will be starring at center and will help lead the rookie players in the right direction. The problem is, the Cavaliers will likely be at the bottom of the East again because of the sheer number of new players who need to learn the NBA game. To add to insult, the Cavaliers might move Kevin Love in exchange for young players and first-round pics to improve the rebuilding process. The season will be full of young stars, but very few wins are expected.
This offseason has been nothing short of catastrophic for the Charlotte Hornets. This was mostly due to massive changes that occurred within the team. Their best players, such as Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb, chose to sign with the Celtics and Pacers. To add to insult, Tony Parker decided it was time to pack up shop once and for all. With their terrible lineup, the Hornets only have a year of failure to look forward to. It was due to poor management that they lost star player Kemba, who was becoming a fan favorite. They also failed to replace him with anyone of the same caliber.
