There are plenty of great ways to explore Australia, but none are as exciting as hitting the Outback on a mountain bike. From forests to mountains, Australia has plenty of places for you to get a fix while visiting. Here’s a look at some of the best spots for mountain biking in Australia.
Forrest Mountain Bike Park
The Forrest Mountain Bike Park lies in the middle of a rainforest, complete with gorgeous waterfalls and lush eucalyptus trees. The park has a few trails that would be great for beginning riders, but the majority of this park is really going to cater to the more experienced mountain bikers. If you’re a downhill lover, make sure to check out the Yaugher trail.
You Yangs Regional Park
Little River, Victoria
The You Yangs Regional Park is free to get into and offers riders plenty of well-marked trails and boulders for a variety of skill levels. Downhill riders and cross-country addicts will have no problem finding plenty to keep them busy in the “Stockyards.” This area of the park has rock gardens and ramps, and plenty of fast runs to get your blood pumping. The Kurrajong Plantation section of the park is a great spot for beginners, with plenty of flat tracks.
Thredbo Mountain Bike Park
Thredbo, New South Wales
If your idea of mountain biking actually requires a mountain, Thredbo Mountain Bike Park is a must-visit while in the land down under. It offers trails for a variety of riders at every skill level, all of which are in the shadow of Australia’s tallest mountain.
Ourimbah State Forest

If you want to pack as much adventure into a day of mountain biking as you possibly can, look no further than the Ourimbah State Forest. The park boasts plenty of exhilarating trails, with names like “Jurassic Park” and “Roller Coaster.” When you’re done hitting the trails, take to the sky by visiting the Tree Top Adventure Park (located in the Ourimbah), where you can explore the ropes course and zip-lining.
